House. c1700 remodelling of early C17 range. Brick, with plinths to south and east. Hipped and brick-coped gabled slate roofs, with central lantern with weather-vane on ridge. 3 brick integral stacks to front and 3 projecting eaves stacks to rear of main range with diagonal or spurred shafts with restored caps, and one to side. U-shaped plan of double-depth main range with cross wings each end. EXTERIOR: 2-storey with attic and cellar. Main wall of west front is a 2-storey, 5-window range of 9/9 sashes with moulded cases and rubbed brick lintels. Central plain oak doorcase and pedimented leaded canopy on projecting carved brackets with 8-panelled door. Projecting return wall to left with 15/15 sashes and that to right with restored 6/6 sash and 2 blocked windows. Flanking projecting wings terminate in large shaped brick-coped gables with storey bands at each floor and over attic window. Each wing with 6/6 sashes at attic, two 9/9 sashes at first floor and ground floor with 6/6 sashes, with one to right wing replaced with doorcase with plain pilasters, panelled reveals and brackets supporting pediment canopy, 6-panelled door with raised and fielded panels. Wing to left with later inserted 6-panelled door in moulded doorcase. Right return side to south: shaped brick-coped central raised gable over 5-window range at first floor and 6 windows at ground floor: 9/9 sashes with moulded cases and brick segmental arches. Central pair of glazed doors with projecting pedimented canopy. Two 2/2 sashes in attic gable with dentilled brick storey bands above and below. Central stone sundial set above second floor. Left return side: projecting stack flanked by 6/6 sashes to right. Various scattered sashes and casements to left. Rear: 3 projecting stacks, between stacks to right are leaded casements with moulded brick hoodmoulds, between stacks to left are first-floor sashes flanking tall round-headed 12/9 staircase sash; and leaded casements with moulded brick hoodmoulds flanking 6-panelled door at ground level. INTERIOR: main range with chamfered bridging beams with ovolo stops. Short swept braces to internal truss frames at ground-floor level. Early C17 panelling incorporated in later fireplace surround in south bay, with central bay with C18 raised panelling. Dog-leg oak staircase with closed string, column-on-vase balusters, toad-back handrail, cluster of 4 balusters forming newel. C17 roof of main range of twin trenched-purlin roof of 5 bays with closed trusses, high collar with twin raking struts over square framing below, tie beam interrupted by doorway posts to 2 trusses. Internal lead rainwater hopper serving west front dated 1702.
