GV II

Terraced house. Mid C19. Stucco. Roof obscured by blocking course. EXTERIOR: 4 storeys and attic over basement. 3-window range. The entire facade is treated as a full-height and nearly full-width canted bay, with the right ground floor segment cut back to receive a flat-arched entry with overlight. The entry is set into a prostyle porch consisting of Tuscan pilasters and entablature decorated with garlands of laurel leaves and a modillioned cornice. The ground floor has banded, chamfered rustication; lintels to the flat-arched windows are treated as voussoirs with keystones. Each first-floor window has a balcony with cast-iron railing and brackets. The windows have architraves and entablatures, the cornice of which sits on console brackets. The frieze of each entablature bears 3 rosettes. Storey bands between the first and second, and second and third floors. Second-floor windows with architraves. The cornice to the third floor is decorated by dentil blocks, an ovolo treated as a bead and reel, and modillions. This cornice returns around the left and right corners. The attic cornice has short returns as well, but is simpler. Stacks to party walls. INTERIOR: not inspected. Railings to stairs and area. Nos 68, 69, and 73-89 Marine Parade (qv) form a group with Nos 1-14 Royal Crescent (qv).
