TQ3103NE MARINE PARADE 577-1/47/446 (North side) 20/08/71 Nos.68 AND 69 and attached railings

GV II

Terraced houses. Early C19. Stucco. Roof obscured by parapet. EXTERIOR: 4 storeys over basement. 3 windows each. Right return of No.69 3-window range. Each elevation treated as full-height and nearly full-width segmental bay, with flat-arched windows. Second floor windows have cornice supported by console brackets. All windows in No.69 have architraves as well. Entablature and parapet. Ground floor of No.68 scored to imitate ashlaring, on No.69 treated as banded, chamfered rustication, with alternate bands vermiculated. Verandah with recently rebuilt roof and cast-iron rails and brackets to No.68; first floor balcony to No.69, with cast-iron railings, and thick, stucco-covered brackets, decorated with guilloche and acanthus on the intrados, and flowers on the spandrels. Entry to No.68 round arched with decorative fanlight, under prostyle porch of thin, fluted Tuscan columns and pilasters. Entry to No.69 in right return, round arched with fanlight, under Doric prostyle porch and entablature with blocking course. Frieze decorated with Greek key pattern. All windows on return have architraves, with those on the first and second floors having cornices supported by console brackets. Railings to stairs and area, cast-iron balconettes to second floor windows on No.69. INTERIOR: not inspected. Nos 68, 69, and 73-89 (consecutive) form a group with Nos 1-14 Royal Crescent.
