Terraced house. c1846. Built by Thomas Cubitt. Stucco. Roofs
of slate, those to Nos 14 and 15 are turnerised.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and dormer over basement, except for No.17
which has 3 storeys and attic with dormers over basement. 2
windows each. All openings are flat arched. Steps up to
entrance with overlight of each; panelled doors of original
designs, although much altered; entrance set in Tuscan
aedicule, the entablature of which, on Nos 16 and 17, has a
frieze of wreaths. Ground floor of banded rustication. To the
right of the entrance of No.13 is a canted bay with tripartite
windows. 2 windows to the right of entrances to Nos 14 and 15,
and one tripartite window to the right of Nos 16 and 17's
entrances. First-floor balcony to all, those to pairs formed
by Nos 14-15 and 16-17 are continuous, all but the latter
supported by cast-iron brackets and enclosed by cast-iron
railings. Floor-to-ceiling, first-floor windows with
architraves; those to No.13 have pediments, each supported by
a pair of console brackets, each of the remaining first-floor
windows have an entablature, that to the windows of Nos 16 and
17 with a frieze of paterae. All second-floor and attic
windows with projecting sills. There is a cornice to the
second floor of each unit, continuous to pairs formed by Nos
14-15 and 16-17. No.17 has, in addition, a cornice to attic
storey. 2 dormers to all but Nos 14 and 15, which have one
dormer each, the former with glazing bars of an original
design. First-floor windows to all but No.16 have sashes of
original 4 x 4 design; No.16 has 3 x 6 windows of an original
design. Second-floor windows to all but No.13 of an original 3
x 6 design. Ground-floor tripartite window to No.17 of an
original design: 4 x 4 to centre and 2 x 2 to sides.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Nos 1-17 Belgrave Place (consecutive) (qv) form an important
group.
