Terraced houses. Dated 1846 on the entablature of No.9.
Stucco. Roofs parapeted.
EXTERIOR: the 3 units treated as a single composition, which
is symmetrical about the centre unit of 3-window range; sides
of 2 windows each; in addition the centre unit projects from
the sides and is topped by a shallow pediment. 3 storeys and
attic over basement. All openings are flat arched. Each has
stairs up to entrance with overlight. Ground floors treated as
banded rustication. Nos 8 and 10 have one window to the side
of the entrance, No.9 has 2 windows to the side of the
entrance. Continuous first-floor balcony with cast-iron
brackets and railings. First-floor openings are floor to
ceiling, each with an architrave and pediment supported by a
pair of console brackets; the pediments alternate between
triangular and segmental. Quoins to corners of centre unit,
from first floor to attic storey. All second-floor windows
with architraves and projecting sills. Storey band between
second floor and attic of each. Attic windows have projecting
sills. Entablature band across top with projecting cornice.
The centre-window range of No.9, on the second and attic
floors, is blocked. Nos 8 and 10 have entrance landings in
common with Nos 7 and 11 (qv). No.8 has, in addition, one
fluted, Ionic column with impost block and dentil cornice
instead of first-floor balcony bracket; this feature identical
to column found by the side of entrance to No.7. Railings to
stairs and areas. Basement windows with sashes of original
design: 10 x 10 to No.8 and 6 x 6 to No.9. Entablature of the
centre unit bears the date and the words "Belgrave Place".
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Nos 1-17 Belgrave Place (consecutive) (qv) form an important
group.
