Shop. 1874. By John Douglas. For George Hodgkinson,
leaseholder from Dean and Chapter of Chester Cathedral,
forming part of development with Nos 19-27 (odd) St Werburgh
Street (qv). Stone-dressed brick and timber framing with
plaster panels; brown tile roof.
2 storeys; triangular in plan, occupying a corner site. The
stone-dressed brick first storey has red sandstone stall-riser
and flush quoins at corners. The shopfront has one stone step
to a 9-panel door, the 6 upper panels glazed; 3-pane window; 2
stone steps to door of 4 square panels above four long panels,
to stair north, has stone lintel dated 1874.
Moulded sole-beam to second storey; mullioned and transomed
window of 3;3 lights above shopfront; coved eaves to hipped
roof below gable pargeted with foliar and floral motif; The
north part has 2 small partly leaded windows beneath a hipped
roof sweeping down from the ridge over No.19 St Werburgh
Street (qv).
