1/7 The Old Schoolhouse
(Formerly listed as School and
School house)

School and schoolhouse, now house. c.1853, by G.E. Street. Coursed and snecked
dressed limestone; old and C20 tile roof; stone stacks. Asymmetrical plan;
schoolhouse to left, school to right. Gothic Revival Style. One storey and attic
schoolhouse; one storey school; 4-window range. Asymmetrical elevation has
recessed left bay and gabled wall with schoolhouse entrance built flush to side
wall of school. 2 pointed chamfered doorways with inserted C20 windows.
Schoolhouse has shallow pointed tympanum arches over 3-light leaded first-floor
casement and C20 ground-floor casements. School has lateral external stack
flanked by 2-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows with small panes. Cusped
rafters exposed at eaves. Gabled roof; gable end and lateral stacks. 3-light
leaded casement in left gable wall and pointed chamfered arch over plank door
with original fittings in left side wall of left gable.
