SK 42 SW WORTHINGTON CHURCH ROAD

Multi-period parish church, dating back to c12, but largely of c13. Sandstone rubble throughout, though quality of coursing varies between east and west ends, single-celled, no aisles, integral nave & chancel. At west end, a tile-hung bell turret. South doorway a plain round-headed arch with voussoirs, within brick porch with crow-stepped gable. Various window types from different periods of build. Earliest is in north wall, a single-splayed round-headed opening, flush to external wall face. Several other single-splayed windows are lancets, some with slightly trefoiled heads. Other windows are of Y tracery, with hood moulds externally. Chancel has string course and a south door with double chamfered arch, and a blocked low-side window. East window of single tracery. End built up to gable with brick. Interior has c19 roof and fittings, through pulpit & panelling behind altar may be c18. Plain wood screen separates chancel. Font, c15, octagonal, & decorated with tracery and shields.
