7/56 The Old Rectory

G.V. II

Former rectory, now house. 1863 by James Fowler of Louth. Red brick with yellow brick polychromatic bands and dressings, and ashlar dressings. Plain tiled roofs having 2 ridge stacks. L- plan. 2 storey, 2 bay front with plinth and corbelled out band. Off centre glazed double doors with triangular plain overlight flanked by single plain windows. To right a margin light sash. To first floor 2 similar windows under gables. All windows have pointed heads with red and yellow brick voussoirs and ashlar keystones. To left of front is a canted brick bay having tall plain sashes also with pointed heads. The entrance is in the right hand side front in an advanced bay with above a larger window with delicate arched glazing bars and to the gable a lozenge pattern in flush yellow brick. The plans reveal that the house was not built as originally intended. Source: MGA PLan 435. Lincoln Archives.
