School now house. 1871-2. John Douglas. Flemish bond brick
with stone and terracotta dressings and a clay tile roof.
The schoolroom itself was formerly open to the roof but has
been floored over in conversion to a house. There is a wing
at the rear and a porch at the left. 3-bays with projecting
chimneystack between bays 1 and 2 with decorative brick
diagonally set clustered shafts. On either side are 7-light
mullion windows in moulded terracotta. Dormer gable in bay
2 with 3-light mullion window and lozenge gable decoration.
A C20 patio window has been inserted to bay 3 as well as the
rear. Hipped porch with hipped bellcote above on gable of
main roof. The interior (though largely altered) retains 2
pairs of truncated crucks which support the roof. Cruck
spurs support the wallplate and a collar beam the purlins,
in what is an unusual revival of an early form of
construction.
