Office building. 1855-57. C. R. and F. P. Cockerell.
Attic storey added 1920's. Ashlar, rusticated quoins, slate
roof. 3 storeys, with basement and attics, 7 bays. 15 bay
returns to High Street and Exchange Street East. Pedimented
centre doorway with red granite Doric columns, all set in
coved round arch with cornice and swags. Ground floor has
segmental arched windows, 2nd floor recessed behind
Corinthian colonnade: round-headed windows with iron
balconies, the end ones with pediments on brackets. Flat
bands between storeys. Small rectangular attic windows over
cornice above 2nd floor, and main cornice above with
modillions. Mansard roof and dormers with segmental
pediments; corner stacks with cornices. Similar facades on
east and west.
