1. 5363 KING STREET (East side) GV The Iron Gates ST 7748 SE 5/87 22.7.49 The Iron Gates

2. Circa 1700 or earlier core, remodelled mid C18 to road. (First in rates 1696). 2 storeys, 5 windows, cambered heads and plain architraves, upper sashes with glazing bars. Rubble(at time of re-survey), formerly stuccoed. Plinth. Plaster cornice with slight end breaks (for stucco pilasters). High parapet with coping, returned in C18 brick. Plain panelled door under broken pediment withbolection surround. Right hand return has part of a transomed mullion on ground floor and a garret window with drip - latter continued as a former coved string (sliced off) across front, below cornice, a similar course appears at impost level at ground floor windows. Circa 1700 rear wing of 2 storeys and dormer with 3 storey angle projection for staircase and back entrance. Rendered and grooved as ashlar, coved plaster moulded eaves cornice, moulded architraves to sash windows, cornices to lower windows. Stucco pilasters. Glazed early C19 porch with panelled door. Lead rainwater head with shield bearing arms of Houlton (of Farleigh Hungerford, important clothiers in Trowbridge). Ashlar chimney. Stone tile roof with C18 dormers - 2-light casements with moulded pediments. Traces of a mullion window on ground floor of stair turret. Interior, mahogany staircase (broken) and panelled ground floor rooms apparently a C20 remodelling.
