SZ58NW ARRETON STREET 1353-0/2/23 Haseley Manor 21/07/51

GV II*

Manor House. Core of mid C15 monastic grange belonging to Quarr Abbey south, with C16 range replacing earlier building added to north and to south, partially refronted in C18 and with projecting wing to north east, dated W.B. 1774 and C18 brewhouse dairy and kitchen to north west. Built of stone rubble with brick dressings, some C18 brickwork and mathematically tiled roof. 2 storeys attics and basement. Irregular fenestration. Courtyard side has mainly C19 casements or C20 windows in 1772 addition. East front has 2 late C18 24-pane sashes and C19 yellow and red brick porch with tiled roof. Behind this is an original door surround of c.1570. North front has mainly C19 casements. 1st floor of stone rubble with brick 1st floor. To the east of 2nd doorway is the C16 addition of 2 bays. There is a later addition with the reused coat of arms of Henry VII embedded in the wall. The east gable has a C17 double mullioned window to 1st floor and 2 cambered arched windows on ground floor. The south front has 4 mullioned windows and the extension has a Venetian window and is hung with mathematical tiles. The west front has 2 projecting stone chimney-stacks with brick diagonal chimney-stacks in English bond. C18 projecting dairy, brewhouse and kitchen extension to north west in stone with brick surrounds and C20 fenestration. Interior has to south east wing remains of C15 2 bay upper open hall with single bay solar either end of raised cruck construction. Late C18 partition walls and early C17 panelling and fireplace in west end bay. Dining room has stone fireplace and 6 panelled door. Drawing Room has late C18 dado panelling, eared architraves to doorcases and panelled door. C16 Kitchen originally had a smoke hood. C18 wine cellars with flagstone floor. The Great Bed Chamber has a late C16 stone fireplace. Roof of staggered purlin and queen post construction with some curved tension braces. 1/2 winder staircase. Brewhouse to north west was converted into a kitchen in the C18 with scullery and dairy behind. (The Manor Houses of the Isle of Wight: C.W.R.
