Secondary school, formerly secondary modern school for boys.
1958. Lyons, Israel and Ellis. Reinforced. concrete frame
with infill in brick, solid panels and glazing. Flat roof.
Two storeys. Main rectangular block of eleven bays with
smaller attached single storeyed kitchen projecting to the
east, of brick. Main block with expressed board-marked
concrete frame, standing proud of the facades. Bays six and
seven from south form the entrance, which is deeply recessed
behind the columns with a staircase projection, also well
behind the columns, to its right. Floor to ceiling glazing to
entrance hall. To left of entrance the concrete boiler house
chimney projects through the roof as an architectural feature,
and above the entrance the water tower also projects as an
architectural feature. Hall to left is of double-height, with
walls partly solid and partly of vertical strip windows.
Classrooms fully glazed with thick timber window mullions and
band at dado level.
