Church. 1863-4. By E. G. Paley. Rock-faced stone with ashlar
dressings and slate roof. Nave, transepts and chancel with
north and south vestries. 5-bay nave has coved cornice with
corbels; 2-light plate tracery windows,, with shafts and
capitals, hood moulds with head stops, between weathered
buttresses. West end has setback buttresses flanking open
porch with round columns and crocket capitals supporting 3
ovolo-moulded shouldered lintels; cornice and gablet with
ball flower and roundel with head of Christ; hipped roof. 4-
light window above has Geometrical tracery, shafts with
capitals, head stops, further small light above. Transepts
have flat angle buttresses and plate tracery wheel windows
with shafts, that to north has turret to east with entrance
with gablet, octagonal top with trefoil-headed openings,
cornice and slate-hung spire with lucarnes. Chancel has
canted end, deep buttresses and cornice with ball flower and
gargoyles; 2-light Geometrical tracery windows. Vestries
have parapets with trefoil-headed arcading, 2-light
segmental-pointed windows and segmental-pointed head to
south entrance. Interior: Nave has arch-braced hammer beam
roof on corbels. Transepts have corbelled arches into nave.
Richly moulded chancel arch on triple shafts with crocket
capitals. Font has round bowl with inscription band on
clustered granite shafts. Pulpit is stone on round pier,
trefoil-headed recesses with moulded gables and head stops.
Interesting C19 glass, particularly to south, and west
window, 1893, by F. Holt. Chancel has ribbed roof and
segmental pointed arches to vestries.
