LEZANT A.384 SX 38 SE 4/36 Greystone Bridge (that part in Lezant CP) 1.12.51 Formerly listed as Greystones Bridge (the part in Launceston R D)

GV I

Bridge over river Tamar. 1439 with later repairs. Roughly coursed slate stone with mainly granite coping and dressings. 4 segmental arches to river with 2 flood-water arches to bank on each side. Arches to river are recessed with single chamfering and double ring of voussoirs; chamfered imposts and plain string course, stepped over inner extra arch on Cornish bank, south side. Arches to bank are flush with single order of voussoirs. Long abutments and 5 triangular cutwaters/pedestrian refuges. The roadway was formerly paved. Spans the River Tamar, which here forms the county boundary with Devon. Bishop lacy of Exeter granted an indulgence to all those contributing towards the cost of the bridge. Probably by the same builder as Horse Bridge, Stoke Climsland CP (qv).
