Office building. 1864-5 by J. A. Picton & Son. Stone with
grey granite basement, lead roof, 3 storeys with basement
and attic, 7 bays with curved bay on Princess Street corner,
centre bay breaks forward. Basement rusticated with
projecting C20 shop fronts. Ground floor has attached
Tuscan colonnade with panelled frieze and cornice central
round arched rusticated entrance. Door cut into last bay.
1st floor has round arched windows in aedicules, the
pilasters with carved panels, 2nd floor has sill band,
windows with flat pilasters, entablatures and strapwork
cresting. Mansard roof, dormers with shell hoods. Entrance
bay; 1st floor rusticated with segmental-headed window
surmounted by arms. 2nd floor has round-arched window
flanked by paired flat Ironic pilasters. Tower: lower stage
with recessed curved corners and the upper stage is
octagonal, with round-headed lights with keystones, lead
cupola and finials.
