TQ2904SE LANSDOWNE SQUARE 579-1/23/90 (West side) 24/03/50 Nos.4, 5 AND 6 and attached railings (Formerly Listed as: LANSDOWNE SQUARE Nos.1-9 (Consecutive))

GV II

Terrace of dwellings. 1830-33, refenestrated late C19-early C20. Architect C.A.Busby. Stucco over brick and rubble, shallow pitch bitumen covered hipped slate roofs. Central range of 3 short terraces forming U-plan group known as Lansdowne Square. 3 storeys over basement, 1:1:3:1:1 bays, central 3 bays break forward slightly with giant Corinthean columns carrying entablature and shallow pediment, projecting into second, or attic, storey with 2-light casements on either side, entablature continued in adjoining bays with Corinthian pilasters, end bays recessed with entrances to Nos 4 & 6, sash windows mostly without glazing bars except ground floor 2 bays right with French casement windows, stucco balustrade, outer bays pedimented, one to right with inserted canted bay. Entrances approached by short flights of steps. Railings returned from entrances along street frontage with gates to basement areas.
