HOTEL STREET 1. 5304 5.1.50 Assembly Rooms (County Rooms) - Basement area railings to Assembly Rooms (County Rooms) SK 5804 SE 3/52 II* GV 2. 1792. Architect J. Johnson of Leicester. Fine classical building in ashlar. Two-storeys and basement. Three large windows of three lights divided by Greek Ionic columns, semi-circular heads with glazed tympana. Modern sashes with glazing bars, replace original. Four ground floor windows with flat arches. Rusticated ground floor. Plain frieze. Modillion cornice with small parapet rising to central panel. Projecting porch with heavy entablature carried on two pairs of Tuscan columns. Two niches flank the central window with small frieze and cornice and figures of female musicians. Above each a small inset bas-relief of dancing figures, both figures and reliefs by J. C. F. Rossi and J. Bingley. Slate roof with gabled ends. Including basement area railings. Interior: fine staircase. Large first floor room across whole front with shallow tunnel-vault and stucco decoration, paintings by R. R. Rainagle. AM.

No 33 together with No 10 Saracen's Head P.H. the Assembly Room and Extension, Hotel Street form a group, also the Assembly Rooms and Extension form a group with County Fire Service in Market Place South (No 33 and Saracen's Head P.H. are buildings of local interest).
