Gate Lodge. 1843-4 by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin in C13 style. Roughcoursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and slate roof. Gabled gate lodge approached over a bridge with a room over the carriage archway. Entrance:- Cross to apex of
gable, obtusely pointed carriage archway flanked by buttresses below, shields
in arch spandrels. One quatrefoil window and two,2-light and roundel windows
over. Octagonal stair turret to left (south west) and central buttresses to
right hand return front. Bellcote to left of roof. Single storey wing at
right angles to left with pentice link to the main gateway. Two studded
double doors with arched door to'left. Rib vaulted centre passage of 3 arched
bays. Rear:- chamfered order and hood moulding to arched through-way. 2
shouldered lancets in deep chamfered reveals and under hood mouldings. Two
linked lancets to pentice on right. Gable crucifix. Central shield boss to
roof.
