3/95 The Old Rectory and attached
wall with piers

Former rectory now house. Initial led and dated J.S. 1837. House;
ashlar, slate roof, limestone stacks. Wall; brick, faced in
sandstone. House; rectangular plan with projecting porch, wall
curving forwards left. Stableblock left of house not of special
interest. House; 2 storeys, irregular fenestration; 1 and 2-light
stone-mullioned casements with and without transoms. Stopped hoods
over first floor windows, twin-gabled parapet and string above.
Ground floor; bay window right of projecting porch, with decorated
stone parapet, 2 single lights, one above the other left of porch.
Projecting porch with diagonal buttresses and decorated parapet
off-centre left. Four steps up to double, panelled door in pointed
surround, stopped hood. Twin string course between ground and
first floor at same level as porch parapet. Wall; up to 3m in
height, blind 'Tudor'-arched double entrance left of house, blank
heraldic shield on gable above. Gate piers front left terminating
in octagonal gate piers with ogee curved cappings and iron flag
finials. Panelled door left within 'Tudor'-arched surround. Blank
heraldic shields-above doorway and on each gate pier. Moulded
saddleback coping.
House interior as built; Gothic arched entrance hall, moulded
plasterwork ceiling to front left hand room, original fireplaces.
