SNARESTONE MAIN STREET SK 30 NW 6/84 (South Side) No. 24 (Beech House, formerly listed as The Laurels) 24.11.65 GV II* House of c1700. Red brick (remains colour wash front) with plinth having stone top moulding, stone bands, quoins and cornice to front and slate front, plain tile rear roof with 2 symmetrical ridge stacks. 2 storeys of 7 windows with flat gauged brick lintels and stone keystones and sills. Early C19 wooden mullion and transom 4/4 lights replacing earlier frames. Ground floor a tripartite window 4/4 either end of similar date and style. replaces 4 former windows whose lintels remain. A very careful alteration.Central stone bolection moulded doorway with segmental pediment and C18/C19 6- panelled oak door. 2 blocked 2-light stone mullions to basement. Small semi-circular window in attic c1800. On right end 2 blocked windows and renewed attic casement; on left ground floor 4/4 C19 mullion & transom,lst floor,blocked, and 2 renewed attic 4/4 casements. To rear a gabled staircase projection with low wide door, possibly reset, 3 stone steps and 2 C19 casements. Stone 1-light in basement. Dormers to right one above other. Other casements. Further right a 2 storey C18 wing with C20 casements and end stack. C20 1 storey extension projects from this side of wing adjoining left end of main range has door with 3-pane overlight, 4/4 to left with 2-light casement over and dormer above. Windows to sides 4/4 and rear have cambered lintels. Interior has original oak well staircase and beams and inglenook in kitchen. The principal house in the group with Nos. 19 and 22.
