49/1305 Midland Railway Goods Offices 14.3.75. G.V. II

Warehouse. Dated 1874 for the Midland Railway Company. Occupies whole of block bounded by Victoria Street, Crosshall Street, Whitechapel, Peter Street, except for small square block on south-west corner. Brick on stone base and with stone dressings; stone flush bands with blue brick borders, top cornice with modillions, hipped slate roof. 2-storey, 3-bay block with 3-storey, 4-bay block to right; 8-bay return to Crosshall Street. Giant round relieving arches with keystones and bands. 8 arches on concave facade to Crosshall Street, with 2 large round- arched entrances below. Segmental arched entrances on Whitechapel facade, and a single storeyed low wing to south- west with round-arched lancets (former stables). Victoria Street facade: carved spandrels with shield of arms and carved names of Midland Railway stations, offices are 3 storeys and 4 bays, and have sash windows with glazing bars each floor (plus 3 windows each floor on Peter Street).
