1/1 Radcot Bridge (that part in town of Gt Faringdon) 21.11.66

Early C14 and C15 stone bridge. 3 arches. Outer arches pointed and ribbed beneath. Taller central round arch probably a later rebuilding. Chamfered coping and small 3-sided projection over centre arch of east side. The bridge was broken down in 1387 at the Battle of Radcot and the centre arch may be a subsequent repair. 'The best medieval bridge in Berkshire' (Pevsner). A.M. The north side of the bridge is in West Oxfordshire District.
